Know a mobile developer with their sights set on social? Facebook on Tuesday announced Mobile DevCon 2013, a series of three events for mobile developers in New York City, London and Seoul.
The company aims to use the conference to help developers understand how the platform works so they can create mobile apps that integrate with the site. Facebook, which has more than 680 million active mobile users, hasn't held a developer conference since f8 in September 2011.
"Facebook has had an exciting couple of years in mobile — we have rebuild our iOS, Android apps and mobile web apps, and retooled our entire business around mobile," said James Pearce, with Facebook's development relations team, in a video posted to the company's official blog.
"What we know is that thousands — in fact, millions — of developers around the world are going through a similar transition right now and are looking at mobile and trying to understand what it means to them."
Pearce said the events will be pretty "technical," with a lot of coders talking about best practices and the future.
"We wanted to have the opportunity to come out and meet those developers, and talk about some of our experiences and talk about how Facebook can help those developers become successful."
The conferences will be held in New York on April 18, London on May 2 and Seoul on May 7.
The cities are interesting choices for Facebook. With San Francisco-based mobile developers already have a lot of access to the social networking site, branching out in New York and its growing tech scene is a strategic choice, especially with its engineering office in the city. Seoul is also an extremely connected mobile hub, and London is easily accessed for European developers.
Facebook said attendees will be treated to one-on-one time with Facebook engineers and product managers. Among the topics to be discussed include design tips, best practices for Open Graph and security issues. There will also be mobile employees on hand from companies such as Fab.com, GetGlue, Zeebox and EyeEm to talk about how they are building for mobile.
